Chastity Patterson, 23, lost her beloved father, Jason Ligons four years ago. In mourning of his death, she regularly sent emotional text messages to her father's cell phone. This last Thursday, Patterson decided it was time to move on so she sent one last message stating that she graduated from college and had beaten breast cancer. Little did she know someone else was on the other end of the text chain. She received from a response from a man who refers to himself as, Brad. Interestingly, he had recently suffered a devastating loss of his own. The DailyMail shared the text messages with Brad's response:
"Hi sweetheart, I am not your father, but I have been getting all you messages from the past 4 years. I look forward to your morning messages and your nightly updates. My name is brad and I lost my daughter in a car wreck. August 2014 and your messages have kept me alive. When you text me, I know it's a message from God. I'm sorry you lost someone so close to you, but i have listened to you over the years and I have watched you grow and go through more than anyone. I have wanted to text you back for years, but I didn't want to break you heart. You are an extraordinary woman and I wish my daughter would have become the woman you are, thank you for your everyday updates, you remind me that there is a God and it wasn't his fault that my little angel and I knew this day was coming. Everything will be okay, you to push yourself everyday and shine the light God gave you. I'm sorry you have to go through this, but if it makes makes it any better, I am very proud of you!"
"P.S. I think your father would be happy to know you bought another dog instead of having children. Take care and I look forward to your updates tomorrow."
Patterson stated, "I saw the bubbles pop up and I threw the phone down. It dinged and my Dad's name came across the screen. I opened it up and I got mad, I thought it was a joke." Receiving a response was not something she anticipated. After having a brief conversation with Brad through text, Patterson spoke with him on the phone. During the phone call Patterson learned more about his life and the tragic story of his daughter's death. She released the text messages to the DailyMail but did not give Brad's phone number in order to respect his privacy. Brad was the perfect person to be on the other end of those text messages. It's evident that he left a significant impact on Patterson's life and she left an impact on his.
