Old Water Fire in San Bernardino Forces Evacuations, 75 Acres Burned So Far

A brush fire in San Bernardino broke out early Thursday morning with more than 75 acres burned as of 7 a.m. Thursday morning. Officials say the wind-driven brushfire, dubbed the Old Water Fire, is located near Old Waterman Canyon Road and Highway 18 and broke out just after 2 a.m. Fire officials are warning residents in the area that the fire has the potential for large growth as Santa Ana winds begin picking up through the day.

Fire officials have ordered mandatory evacuations for some residents in the area. The number of homes currently under evacuation is approximately 80, according to officials. Strong winds, with gusts of up to 50 mph, have been measured on the ridge tops in the area.

Evacuations

Mandatory evacuations for residents in the area have been ordered. Those include:

  • Arrowhead Road is now also under mandatory evacuation
  • Area of Mariposa Dr. and David Way remains under evacuation

Voluntary evacuations have been ordered for all homes north of Foothill Dr. between Del Rosa Ave. and Manzanita Dr.

An evacuation center has been set up at San Gorgonio High School, 2299 Pacific Street, San Bernardino, CA 92404.

Road Closures

  • Hwy 18 is closed b/w 40th St. in San Bernardino and Hwy 138 in Crestline
  • Lake Gregory Drive at Hwy 18
