CHP Sergeant On Motorcycle Suffers Major Injuries In Crash On Freeway

LONG BEACH (CNS) - A California Highway Patrol sergeant riding a patrol motorcycle suffered major injuries to his chest and right leg in a crash on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Long Beach, the CHP said today.

The CHP sergeant was on a 2016 Harley-Davidson patrol bike riding to a traffic crash on the southbound freeway, at the Lakewood Boulevard offramp, a little after 10:40 p.m. Friday when, for an unknown reason, the 50-year-old man struck a raised concrete median barrier, the CHP said.

The CHP sergeant was ejected from his vehicle.

Paramedics rushed the Los Angeles resident with major injuries to the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.

All lanes of the southbound San Diego Freeway were closed at Cherry Avenue until after 2 a.m. while an investigation into the crash was underway, the CHP said.
