Average L.A. Gas Price Rises For 10th Consecutive Day

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today for the 10th consecutive day after dropping 26 times in 27 days to its lowest amount since March 25.

The average price rose four-tenths of a cent Friday to $3.679, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has increased 11.1 cents over the past 10 days, including four-tenths of a cent on Thursday.

The average price is 9 cents more than one week ago, two-tenths of a cent higher than one month ago and 1.3 cents greater than one year ago.

The Orange County average price rose for the eighth consecutive day, increasing a half-cent to $3.656. It has risen 10.7 cents over the past eight days, including eight-tenths of a cent on Thursday.

The Orange County average price is 8.8 cents more than one week ago, eight-tenths of a cent higher than one month ago and 4.9 cents greater than one year ago.

“The California Energy Commission reported (Wednesday) that gasoline inventories fell in the last week despite an uptick in refinery production, so local supply was apparently not keeping up with demand,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

“There is no known refinery issue at this time that would cause a sustained spike in prices, so this could be just a short-term increase.”
