LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Temperatures will remain high today but climb higher starting Friday, forecasters said.
High pressure aloft is building over the region, pushing down the air, making it warmer, they said.
Temperatures will be higher through the weekend and begin to decline Monday, said National weather Service meteorologist Curt Kaplan.
“The weekend will be hot,” he said, adding that area residents should “stay hydrated.” No monsoonal moisture is expected during the hot spell, he said.
Today's temperatures will be near normal in some communities. Burbank, for example, is forecast to hit a high of 90, only two degrees above normal. On Friday, it's expected to hit 95 and remain at that level through Sunday. Lancaster today is forecast to hit 99, which is the normal for this time of year.
The NWS forecast mostly partly cloudy skies today and highs of 74 in Avalon; 76 at LAX; 83 in Long Beach; 84 in Downtown L.A.; 87 on Mount Wilson; 88 in San Gabriel; 90 in Burbank; 91 in Pasadena; 96 in Woodland Hills; 99 in Lancaster; and 100 in Palmdale. Friday's temperatures will be up to 5 degrees higher and revert to today's levels on Monday.
Sunny skies were forecast in Orange County, along with highs of 73 in Laguna Beach; 74 in San Clemente; 75 in Newport Beach; 79 on Santiago Peak; 84 on Ortega Highway at 2,600 feet; 86 in Irvine and Mission Viejo; 87 in Fullerton; and 88 in Yorba Linda, Anaheim, Fremont Canyon and Trabuco Canyon. Temperatures will climb around 3 degrees Friday and remain there without exceeding 91 until reverting to today's levels on Monday.
