Britney Spears' Father Suing Blogger, Alleging Defamation and More

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Britney Spears' father filed court papers today accusing the founder of the Absolute Britney blog of defamation and invasion of privacy for allegedly spreading lies about the singer's conservatorship.

The document was submitted in Los Angeles Superior Court by Jamie Spears as the conservator of his daughter's estate, although the paperwork making the lawsuit official had not been officially approved as of Wednesday afternoon.

``It is time for the conspiracy theories about Britney Spears' well- being and the mob #FreeBritney movement to stop,'' the court papers state.

The singer and her father have sat by while some fans have accused them of ``false and malicious things,'' including attempts to mislead the public with the content that appears on her social media, the document states.

The paperwork alleges that Absolute Britney blog founder Anthony Elia, also known as Anthony Steven, has ``made it his mission to spread numerous false and malicious lies on the Internet about Britney, her conservatorship and her team.''

Steven, who could not be immediately reached for comment, has ``made it his agenda to ensure that Britney is no longer in a conservatorship,'' the filing alleges.

Steven alleged on June 14 that members of Spears' ``team'' were manipulating comments on her Instagram page to ``keep up the illusion she needs help,'' according to the suit, which states that neither Jamie Spears nor anyone else working on the singer's behalf is steering remarks on her Instagram page to make a point.

``It is time that Steven understands that his words have consequences and he cannot blindly spout his baseless theories any longer,'' the Spears documents state.

Spears, 37, has been under a conservatorship since 2008, when she exhibited bizarre behavior, including shaving her head bald. The singer was released in May from a Los Angeles facility where she received treatment for undisclosed mental health issues.
