LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County decreased in May to 4.5% from 4.6% in April, the state Employment Development Department reported today.
Last month's unemployment rate was slightly below the May 2018 rate, which also was 4.6%, according to the EDD.
In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the May jobless rate was 2.4%, down from 2.6% in March.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for California was 4.2% in May, the same as in April and the same as April 2018.
According to the EDD, total non-farm employment increased in Los Angeles County by about 8,200 jobs between April and May to reach more than 4.56 million. In anticipation of the summer months, the leisure and hospitality sector led the way, adding about 9,400 jobs. The information sector declined by about 7,000 jobs.
