Turns Out the Dominican Republic Hasn't Suddenly Become More Dangerous

You've probably heard the reports about several deaths and illnesses that happened to people who were vacationing in the Dominican Republic.

This has caused a LOT of unease in travelers who are thinking about avoiding the country.

But, maybe you don't have to cancel that trip to the Dominican Republic after all.

According to the US Department of State, the country hasn't suddenly become more dangerous and a decade of figures shows that of the 2.7 million Americans who visit the DR each year, an average of 19 people have died there annually, or about 7.04 per 1,000 people.

Those numbers are lower than what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says is the overall US domestic death rate of 8.49 per 1,000.

You can read more about the figures HERE and maybe, sort of breathe a bit easier.
