Yesterday's special election ended in a loss for Measure EE, the parcel tax that would have sent $500 million every year to the Los Angeles Unified School District. It lost by a margin of 54.32 to 45.68, according to the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder. It needed two-thirds of the majority to pass.
If voters would have approved Measure EE, it would have imposed a tax on residents for the next 10 years. Thankfully, it didn't even get close, only gaining about 45% approval.
“I think the school district is mismanaging how they spend their money and mismanaging how they create a quality education for all their kids,” said Richard Fisk of Granada Hills, chairman of government affairs for United Chambers of Commerce, based in the San Fernando Valley.
“We did our best to run an honest campaign to let voters know that Measure EE was a massive tax increase,” said No on EE campaign spokesman Matt Klink.
