More prescribed burns may help prevent massive wildfires in California.
A new study from the University of Idaho says in the Southeastern part of the county, officials have ramped up controlled burns in heavy wooded areas, and the area has largely avoided major wildfires in recent years.
Some fire authorities in California say it's almost impossible to set up a controlled burn because the state requires too much red tape. Some parts of the state haven't seen a prescribed burn in years.
