Four Killed in Early Morning Crash on Long Beach Freeway

SOUTH GATE (CNS) - Four people were killed this morning this morning in a crash on the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in South Gate.

The California Highway Patrol received calls about 3:15 a.m. that a BMW traveling at a high rate of speed lost control and crashed into a pole on the right side of the freeway, near Firestone Boulevard. A second vehicle hit a wall on the right side of the road.

Firefighters responded and declared four people dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Witnesses told the CHP vehicles were racing just before the crash.

A SigAlert was issued for the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes for an unknown duration.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.

The names of the victims were not immediately disclosed.
