John and Ken have been on this story all week, but in case you've been living under a rock a man has been accused of beating a 63-year-old woman to death with a Bird electric scooter in Long Beach.
Police records show that the 27-year-old suspect, Amad Rashad Redding, has had earlier legal troubles in Louisiana this years. It is unclear when Redding made his way to Long Beach, but the police have been able charge him with the murder of Elena Rosa Hernandez. Redding made his court appearance and failed to enter in a plea.
Redding's next scheduled appearance on court is on May 29. He's been ordered to remain in jail on a $2 million bail. If charged with murder, he faces a possible maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
What's most troubling about this incident is that Redding has had a criminal past earlier this year. Back in January, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office in Louisiana, a man with the same name and birth date was arrested for being the suspect of setting his family's home on fire.
The spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department, Shaunna Dandoy, was able to confirm Redding's previous arrest.
According to the records, he was booked into jail on two counts of simple arson and then later transferred to a New Orleans mental health facility.
Officials in New Orleans could not be immediately reached to provide Redding’s release date or why he was released.
