The frontman for the Sex Pistols, Johnny Rotten is trying to bring attention to the homeless crisis that's descended on his neighborhood in Venice Beach.
Rotten said he's had to deal with vandals hitting his multi-million home and that his wife, Nora Foster, has been "struggling to cope" with the surge of "vagrants" in the area. Foster has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and is having trouble dealing with the problems that are arising because of the homeless camped outside their door.
"They moved in en masse. They're all young, they're all like 24," Rotten told to Newsweek. "They're aggressive, and because there's an awful lot of them together they're gang-y."
Rotten said he has been forced to call police after vagrants set up camp in front of his residence. "They came over the gate and put their tent inside, right in front of the front door. It's like... the audacity."
The rocker says he rejects the idea that he's become one of the "establishment elite" who preach tolerance of the homeless while staying safe inside gated communities. Rotten said he's been unable to take friends down to the water in Venice Beach because needles and feces are often found on the sand.
A recent report in the Hollywood Reporter said Venice Beach had become home to the largest concentration of homeless anywhere on L.A.'s Westside and that several large homeless encampments have sprung up in the area.
