A 54-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the dumping of newborn puppies into a dumpster in an act caught on camera. Deborah Sue Culwell was arrested Monday in Coachella.
Culwell was seen pulling up behind the store in a Jeep and got out carrying a plastic bag. She walked over to a dumpster used for recycling and tossed the bag in before getting back into her car and driving away.
Luckily, a passerby witnessed what happened and told an employee at the store. They contacted animal control and were able to save the seven puppies.
The puppies were near death when animal control officers arrived.
“The good Samaritan played a major role in saving these puppies’ lives,” animal services Commander Chris Mayer said. “His actions were humane and heroic.”
The puppies, which were believed to be about three-days-old, were nursed back to health by a team of veterinarians and given to an animal rescue group.
The 7 puppies were thrown away in a plastic bag in 90 degree weather and were there for an hour.
