LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today to its highest amount since Dec. 1, increasing 1 cent to $3.557.
The average price has risen 19 of the past 20 days, increasing 20.7 cents, including 2.2 cents on Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 18.1 cents more than one week ago, 20 cents higher than one month ago and 1.2 cents greater than one year ago.
The Orange County average price rose to its highest amount since Nov. 30, increasing eight-tenths of a cent to $3.514. It is 19.2 cents more than one week ago, 19.8 cents higher than one month ago and nine-tenths of a cent more than one year ago.
The rising prices are the result of a reduction in supply caused by a partial shutdown of the Phillips 66 Carson refinery, planned maintenance at the Torrance Refinery and unplanned flaring at the Chevron El Segundo refinery, said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
