Suspect Sought in Shooting Of 67-Year-Old Lake Los Angeles Man

LAKE LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Homicide detectives today sought the public's help in locating a man suspected in the fatal shooting of a neighbor last week in the unincorporated Lake Los Angeles area near Lancaster.

Carlos Marcelo Montes de Oca, who also goes by Carlos Marcelo Morales, frequents the Palmdale and Lancaster areas and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The 47-year-old is suspected of killing Salomon Mendoza Mazariegos about 8:40 p.m. last Wednesday at a house in the 39400 block of 167th Street.

“Both men lived in separate recreational vehicles on the same property near the house where the shooting occurred,” according to a sheriff's statement.

Investigators allege the suspect and victim got into an argument inside the home, after which Montes de Oca shot and killed Mazariegos before fleeing on foot.

Deputies from the Lancaster station responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at the home and found Mazariegos with at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Montes de Oca is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 175 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who spots him should not approach him, but instead call 911.

Anyone with information regarding Montes de Oca's whereabouts was urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477. Information can be submitted anonymously.
