Proposed Bills Could Charge Drug Dealers with Murder

The topic of drugs, drug dealers and overdoses has been in our news cycle nearly everyday.

However...this one is a little different.

Virginia, Connecticut, Mississippi and Hawaii have all proposed bills this year that would treat fatal drug overdoses as murder, homicide or manslaughter.

In Virginia, lawmakers approved a bill that would give a suspect a felony charge and 40 years in prison if they are convicted of selling drugs that had resulted in someone's death.

Twenty states already have drug-induced homicide laws that can see charges of manslaughter or murder against a dealer with the goal to slow the growing opioid crisis in their cities.
