Local Graffiti Artist Paints Murals at the Site of Camp Fire

Los-Angeles based artist and muralist Shane Grammer is bringing life back to the remnants of some of the worst hit areas in Paradise after last year's Camp Fire.

Grammer, once employed by Walt Disney, recently spent a week in Paradise painting hauntingly beautiful murals of some of the victims or survivors of the fire, on the rubble of homes and cars ravaged by the devastating blaze.

Grammer grew up in Chico, not far from Paradise, and was shocked by the photos and videos posted by people near his community. Nothing to show for a home but a chimney and a burned vehicle.

For his first piece done in Paradise, Grammer was inspired by the bride in the Old Testament's Song of Solomon - painting a woman’s face on the side of a still-standing chimney belonging to his friends, Shane and Jennifer Edwards.

Grammer also painted Eleanor, the eight-year-old daughter of Nicole and Greg Weddig, who survived the blaze.

A memorial mural for 84-year-old Helen Pace, who perished in the Camp Fire, was painted on the wall of her daughter’s scorched home. Grammer reportedly hopes to make another trip up to Paradise after requests to paint lost animals flooded in.
