It's The End Of The World As We Know It

The world is ending. Well according to Jerry Brown that is.

On Thursday, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists set the Doomsday Clock at two minutes before the symbolic apocalyptic midnight. The minute hand didn't move since last year and 11:58 p.m. is the closest the clock has ever been to symbolizing doom.

According to former governor Jerry Brown, the threat of doomsday looms even closer because "humanity faces two dire and simultaneous existential threats: nuclear weapons and climate change." He also predicted a new Cold War is underway - one 'equivalent to the most dangerous year of the first Cold War.'

The last time the world was considered this close to annihilation was in 1953, when the United States and the Soviet Union were in a nuclear arms race, CNN reports.

Brown also cites how Russia and the United States are in the midst of planning more dangerous weapons of mass destruction, establishing another nuclear arms race.

In regards to climate change's destruction of the earth, global carbon dioxide emissions rose in 2017 and 2018. To halt those deadly and consequential effects, countries around the world 'must cut net worldwide carbon dioxide emissions to zero by midcentury.'
