LONG BEACH (CNS) - A 10-day beach closure in Long Beach caused by a sewage spill that occurred in Glendale has been was lifted.
The closure went into effect on Dec. 18 for the ocean water along all seven miles of the city's public beaches. About half of the beaches were reopened three days after the closure was ordered.
According to Long Beach city officials, the spill on Dec. 17 dumped about 10,400 gallons of sewage into the Los Angeles River, which carried it to the ocean. City officials said state law mandates the beach closure “out of an abundance of caution.”
The closures were lifted Friday after bacteria testing showed levels are within state health standards.
