405 Closure Scheduled this Weekend for Bridge Work

FOUNTAIN VALLEY (CNS) - A portion of the San Diego (405) Freeway in Fountain Valley will be closed this weekend for bridge demolition work as part of an expansion of the freeway. The freeway will be shut down between Warner Avenue and Beach Boulevard from 11 p.m. Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday so construction crews can raze part of the Magnolia Street bridge and freeway ramps.

The bridge will be reconstructed over the next 18 months, according to Orange County Transportation Authority officials. Northbound detours will start at Warner Avenue and southbound drivers will be detoured off the freeway at Beach Boulevard.

The work is part of the $1.9 billion freeway expansion which will add one lane in each direction between Euclid Street and the San Gabriel (605) Freeway and a toll lane from the Corona Del Mar (73) Freeway to the 605.

The project is the fourth bridge of 18 that will be refurbished as part of the project, which aims to speed up heavy traffic on the freeway.
