Southland Gas Prices Drop To Lowest Amount Since March

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped today for the 46th consecutive day, decreasing 1.4 cents to $3.487, its lowest amount since March.

The average price has dropped 39 cents over the past 46 days, including 1 cent on Friday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 7.9 cents less than one week ago and 27.6 cents lower than one month ago, but 31.7 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 33.7 cents since the start of the year.

The streak of decreases is the longest since a 92-day run from Oct. 2, 2014-Jan. 1, 2015.

The Orange County average price dropped for the 44th time in the past 45 days today, decreasing 1.3 cents to $3.429, its lowest amount since March. It has dropped 39.4 cents over the past 45 days, including 1.6 cents on Friday.

The Orange County average price is 8.3 cents less than one week ago and 28.3 cents lower than one month ago, but 31.8 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 31.3 cents since the start of the year.

The Orange County average price dropped for 27 consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent Nov. 21, then resumed declining the following day.

“The pace of price drops accelerated in the last week, with some individual stations reducing their prices by as much as 10 cents overnight,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

“Gas prices under $3 a gallon have appeared in many major metropolitan areas.”
