Southland Average Gas Prices Drop to Lowest Amount Since March

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped today for the 45th consecutive day, decreasing 1 cent to $3.501, its lowest amount since March 20.

The average price has dropped 37.6 cents over the past 45 days, including eight-tenths of a cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 8.1 cents less than one week ago and 27.8 cents lower than one month ago, but 32.3 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 35.1 cents since the start of the year.

The streak of decreases is the longest since a 92-day run from Oct. 2, 2014-Jan. 1, 2015.

The Orange County average price dropped for the 43rd time in 44 days today, decreasing 1.6 cents to $3.442, its lowest amount since March 16. It has dropped 38.1 cents over the past 44 days, including 1.2 cents on Thursday.

The Orange County average price is 8.4 cents less than one week ago and 28.2 cents lower than one month ago, but 32.1 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 32.6 cents since the start of the year.

The Orange County average price dropped for 27 consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent Nov. 21, then resumed declining the following day.

“The pace of price drops accelerated in the last week, with some individual stations reducing their prices by as much as 10 cents overnight,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

“Gas prices under $3 a gallon have appeared in many major metropolitan areas.”
