Upland Woman Randomly Attacked by Transient in Her Home

(Armando Ramirez Jr: Upland Police Department)

A 45-year-old woman is currently in critical condition after she was randomly attacked by a man trying to break into her house.

According to the Upland Police Department Chief Darren Goodman, the attack happened on Sunday morning at around 11 a.m. at the 1400 block of Arrow Highway. A neighbor called the authorities after seeing the woman being assaulted.

“Officers arrived on-scene and found a man attacking her,” Goodman said. “Officers had to deploy Tasers to get him off of her.”

Police identified the suspect as transient Armando Ramirez Jr, 29. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder. The weapon used in the attack has not been disclosed.

“This was a random attack,” Goodman said. “The thing that I can’t stress enough is this is an example of community awareness engagement. A neighbor heard and saw the attack, and called 911 immediately.”

Officers suspect the man was trying to break into the woman’s house, was surprised when she came outside and attacked her.
