California's attempt at building a high-speed rail between Los Angeles and San Francisco is still at least 15 years from completion, and set to cost more than double the original projection. This week, state lawmakers are set to discuss an audit of the project that's now estimated to cost $77 billion.
A report released earlier in November found that poor management has cost billions in overruns and years of delays in the construction. According to CBS San Francisco, lawmakers questioned the auditor and rail officials over the high-speed rail on Thursday.
The audit blames the California High-Speed Rail Authority for beginning construction prematurely, and state auditor Elaine Howle added that she found little oversight or management in the project contracts.
