SYLMAR (CNS) - A suspect in an allegedly stolen convertible led police on a high-speed chase from North Hills to Pacoima and into Sylmar today, colliding with several vehicles along the way before he abandoned the vehicle in a shopping center parking lot and fled toward a nearby apartment complex, where he was soon taken into custody.
It was unclear when the chase began. According to ABC7, it started in the area of Sepulveda Boulevard and Nordhoff Street. The chase ended about 6 p.m. in a parking lot at Foothill Boulevard and Sayre Street in Sylmar, where the suspect exited the red car and fled toward an apartment complex in the area of Beaver Street and Dronfield Avenue.
Officers surrounded the area and the suspect was taken into custody about 6:20 p.m., Channel 7 reported. During the chase, the suspect raced at speeds near 90 mph on city streets and the Ronald Reagan (118) and Foothill (210) freeways.
The convertible T-boned another car at one point, but the suspect managed to drive away and continue his flight. The convertible made contact with several other vehicles as the suspect sped along busy streets choked with afternoon rush traffic.
