LOS ANGELES - A $50,000 reward will be announced today for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person or people responsible for a car-to-car shooting that led to the death of two people, one a skateboarder, in the Baldwin Hills area earlier this week.
Police responded about 8:30 p.m. Monday to the 4800 block of West Rodeo Place, not far from the intersection of Rodeo Road and Crenshaw Boulevard, and discovered a driver had been shot, according to Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section. The man -- identified by the coroner's office as Harrison Kristol, 20, of Los Angeles -- died at the scene.
The victim's vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian, said LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera, also of media relations. The man, who was in his 20s, died at the scene, the coroner's office reported. His name was withheld, pending family notification.
The fatally injured person had been riding a skateboard, according to Fox11. Police initially had said the person had been struck and killed by the suspect's vehicle.
As the suspect's vehicle was speeding away, it struck and critically injured a bicyclist at Farmdale Avenue and Exposition Boulevard, Herrera said.
Firefighters sent to the scene discovered one person was trapped beneath a vehicle, and another person had been shot nearby, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Authorities described the suspect's vehicle only as a light-colored sedan.
City and police officials will be joined by victims' family members at a news conference 9 a.m. Thursday at the LAPD's 77th Street Station to announce the reward.
