A suspect was killed Tuesday morning and an FBI agent was wounded following an officer-involved shooting in South L.A. the Los Angeles Police Department said.
According to a tweet from the department, the shooting occurred around 11:00 a.m. in the the parking lot of a motel in the neighborhood of 41st Street and Central Avenue. Paramedics took one person to a nearby hospital for treatment of an unspecified injury.
According to Detective Meghan Aguiliar of the Los Angeles Police Department, LAPD officers and an FBI agent assigned to a gang and drug task force were at the Central Inn investigation a July 31 shooting when they came upon the suspect who was armed.
"In that officer-involved shooting, the FBI agent was struck by gunfire, and he was transported to a local hospital," Aguilar said. "We do believe that these are non-life-threatening wounds that he suffered."
The suspect, who was reportedly 70-years-old, died at the scene, police said. A firearm was recovered at the scene. He had been sought in connection with a shooting that occurred on July 31 near 41st Place and Long Beach Avenue. Jason Ruelas, 43, died at the scene, and another man in his 50s was hospitalized.
Details about what led to the shooting were unclear. According to reports from the scene, FBI personnel were spotted at the location.
