LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Temperatures will reach triple-digit territory in L.A. County today as a ridge of high pressure keeps the heat somewhat above normal, forecasters said.
However, the deviation from average temperatures will not be huge, they said. Downtown L.A., for instance, will reach a high of 91 degrees today, compared to the average, which is 84, said National Weather meteorologist Curt Kaplan. Woodland Hills, where 96 is normal for this time of the year, will reach 100 today, he said.
Highs are also above normal in Orange County. Coastal communities, where the mid 70s are the norm for this time of the year, will reach the high 70s and low 80s today, said NWS meteorologist Philip Gonsalves. Inland temperatures in Orange County will reach the low 90s, about 10 degrees above normal.
Today's weather could feel hotter than it is, Kaplan said, adding that the humidity level across much of L.A. County would be 30-40 percent.
The NWS forecast partly cloudy skies in L-A County today and highs of 81 at LAX; 82 in Avalon; 87 in Long Beach; 88 on Mount Wilson; 91 in downtown L.A.; 93 in San Gabriel; 94 in Burbank; 95 in Pasadena; 96 in Saugus; 100 in Woodland Hills; 102 in Palmdale; and 103 in Lancaster.
Moonsoonal moisture from Mexico, meanwhile, may produce showers and thunderstorms today, including in the Antelope Valley, Kaplan said.
Partly cloudy skies were also forecast in Orange County, along with highs of 77 in San Clemente; 81 in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach; 89 in Irvine; 90 in Anaheim; 91 in Mission Viejo; 92 in Fullerton; and 93 in Yorba Linda.
Temperatures will be about the same through Sunday in both L.A. and Orange counties.
