Item Addressed to 'Anne Thrax' Left at Maxine Waters' South L.A. Office

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A package or item addressed to “Anne Thrax” was left at the South Los Angeles office of Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Los Angeles, but the item was determined not to be a danger.

Portions of the two-story office at 10124 S. Broadway, near Century Boulevard, were evacuated after the item was found about 2:35 p.m., authorities said.

Police requested a hazardous materials response from the Los Angeles Fire Department, which backed up officers as they led the hazmat entry, according to fire department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

The item was determined to be not dangerous, Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations section said.

One person came into contact with the package, but had no medical complaint and no one was taken to a hospital, Stewart said.

Major crimes detectives are investigating the source of the item, Lopez said.

Waters is a vocal critic of President Donald Trump and has called for his impeachment. Last week, a militant group known as the Oath Keepers planned to protest outside Waters' office in South Los Angeles, accusing her of inciting violence against members of the Trump administration who are seen out in public. The protest was scrubbed when dozens of counter-protesters showed up.

At one point, however, a small group of people burned an American flag on the ground.
