Man Suspected Of Attacking Woman With Chainsaw in Whittier Sought

WHITTIER (CNS) - Whittier Police are searching today for a man suspected of attacking his wife with a chainsaw in front of their three children, seriously injuring her.

Two of the children, who are between the ages of 5 and 10, were covered in blood, ABC7 reported.

Police responded around 3 p.m. Wednesday to a report of an attempted murder in the 7700 block of Milton Avenue and found the injured woman, according to the Whittier Daily News.

The victim was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery last night, Officer John Scoggins of the Whittier Police Department told the newspaper. Her condition is unknown.

The suspect, identified as Alejandro Alvarez, 32, of Whittier, is Hispanic, 5 feet 3, 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a brown Hurley T-shirt and dark jeans. He may be driving a stolen blue 2004 four-door Mercury Mountaineer SUV, California license plate 8ABD233.

A chainsaw was recovered, but police still consider Alvarez armed and dangerous, the newspaper reported.

Anyone with information about this case or Alvarez's whereabouts is asked to call Whittier Police detectives at (562) 567-9299.
