LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is scheduled to fly to Aspen, Colorado, today to join Aspen Institute president and CEO Dan Porterfield in conversation to discuss civic leadership as part of the Aspen Institute's McCloskey Speaker Series.
Garcetti will discuss the lessons he has learned running the city, from infrastructure and housing to raising the minimum wage and making community college free, according to Amy DeMaria, the executive vice president, communications and marketing for the institute, which bills itself as gathering diverse, nonpartisan thought leaders, scholars and members of the public to address some of the world's most complex problems.
Garcetti is set to return to Los Angeles Thursday morning, an aide said. The trip is Garcetti's fourth out of the state in four weeks.
Garcetti traveled with a bipartisan delegation of mayors June 21 to a federal detention center in Tornillo, Texas, to protest the Trump administration's family separation policy. He went to Phoenix later that day to deliver the keynote address at the annual conference of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials and speak at fundraisers for former Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton's congressional campaign and the Maricopa County Democratic Party.
Garcetti was in Las Vegas June 25-26 for a meeting of the nonprofit organization Accelerator for America, which seeks to help mayors exchange ideas and attempt to replicate successful ones. He was on a personal trip from last Wednesday through Sunday.
