Former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has come out in full support of Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom's campaign for governor. The pair met appeared together during a breakfast meeting at Homegirl Cafe in Chinatown where Villaraigosa said he will continue to push L.A. County to get to the bottom of a primary day misprint that left nearly 120,000 voters off the rolls.
Newsom said he appreciates Villaraigosa's support at this point, as his campaign pivots toward the general election in November.
"This is a significant moment in our campaign to help unify the Democratic party and to unify it against Jon Cox, Trump and Trump-ism," said Newsom.
Villaraigosa finished third, garnering less than 10 percent of the vote, during June's primary. Republican Jon Cox, and Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom both gathered enough votes to go on to the race for the governor's seat. Gov. Jerry Brown has termed out, and can not run for a third term.
