Gas Prices May Affect Summer Travel Plans

Thinking of going on a nice long road trip this summer? You might want to think of shortening that trip a little because gas prices are expected to rise until Memorial Day. Gas prices are currently on average $2.93 a gallon in California and will rise to $2.95, which is 50 cents more than last year's average.

On GasBuddy's Summer 2018 Travel Survey, 39% of Americans said that high gas prices impacted their travel plans with 24% fewer people traveling this year than last summer.

Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy's head of petroleum analysis, discussed the rising prices.

“With refineries now well positioned for the summer months, we may see some relief in mid-June, but expect this summer to remain the priciest since 2014 with a strong likelihood of the national average hitting the psychological $3 per gallon barrier sometime this summer should we see any unexpected outages or geopolitical tensions flare.”

The survey also listed the number one road trip fear was overpaying for gas. That fear is about to become reality for a lot of people who have things to do and places to see during the summer as most do.
