Three energy companies are facing fines for violating California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard.
According to Will Brieger with the California Air Resources Board, SK Energy Americas was fined $395,000 for failure to meet targets back in 2014.
Alon USA and its subsidiary Paramount Petroleum was fined $300,000 for failing to accurately report fuel transactions. Kern Oil & Refining was fined $90,000 and lost nearly 16,000 fuel standard credits for misreporting the type of low carbon fuel it sold.
The Low Carbon Fuel Standard was put into place across the Golden State in 2010 with compliance starting in 2011. Companies producing fuel for use in the state were required to lower the carbon in their production process ten-percent by 2020.
