Republican Justin Clark, who is 19 years old, has advanced to a runoff in a special election against Democrat Jesse Gabriel to replace Matt Dababneh, who resigned following sexual harassment allegations, in the California Assembly.
Clark, a Cal State Northridge political science student, collected 27.1 percent of the vote, while Gabriel pulled in 32 percent of the vote.
The two will face-off in the runoff for the 45th District on June 5.
The 45th District is comprised of Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Canoga Park, Woodland Hills, West Hills, Winnetka, Northridge, Reseda, Tarzana, Encino, and Bell Canyon.
Clark acknowledges that he not what people tend to look for in their politicians.
"While I may not be what one traditionally expects to find on the ballot, I am sensitive to the need for change."
He says he simply aims to serve the public.
"It is my hope that we can band together and finally say to the world that we will no longer accept the status quo, and that the time for change is now. If elected I will not let my passion and love for my community and progress waiver. The last thing we need is another official saying 'that's how government works.' Government is supposed to serve the people not be a bureaucratic nightmare."
