California Cracks Down On Marijuana Testing

California state officials are cracking down on marijuana regulations.  Betsy Gribble from the Sequoia Analytical Lab says only a fraction of marijuana on the shelves is properly tested.

"If you're gonna be putting things into your body, you should know what you're putting in there, and be assured it's not going to kill you."

State law requires all of the product to be tested before being put on the market.  Gribble says her lab checks for a variety of contaminants from E. coli to heavy metals, but soon they'll be looking for a lot more.  Starting in July, marijuana must be tested for foreign materials like hair or bugs.  Next year, tests will include searching for lead, mercury, arsenic, and mold.
