Facebook Under Fire – Is Your Private Info Safe?

Lawmakers have been swift to call for action against Facebook and other major tech companies like Google and Twitter after it was revealed that a data firm hired by President Trump and Senator Ted Cruz for their Presidential bids gathered data from social media sites without permission. 

Both, Republican and Democrats are calling for the heads of these tech companies to appear before congress to explain themselves and ensure the American public that their private data is safe and how they plan to safeguard their users from being exploited by third-party advertisers 

“Facebook, Google, and Twitter have amassed unprecedented amounts of personal data and use this data when selling advertising, including political advertisements. The lack of oversight on how data is stored and how political advertisements are sold raises concerns about the integrity of American elections as well as privacy rights,” said Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D., Minn.) and John Kennedy (R., La.) in a joint statement on Monday.
