Threat Against Cypress College Resolved

The possible threat to a Southern California college has been resolved the campus wrote Monday. 

A notice posted to the Cypress College website said Monday morning's classes had been cancelled, but the campus would reopen for normal business beginning at noon on Monday.

Any class that begins at noon or after WILL BE held today. Please check your emails and the campus website for any updates throughout the day, the college wrote.

Police in Whittier say relatives of a 24-year-old man reported receiving a text message from him saying he was going to shoot up a school. 

Whittier Police officer John Scoggins said the threat was not against any specific school, but the last school the man attended was Cypress College. Authorities notified the Orange County campus after receiving news about the threat.

Scoggins said no weapons were found during a search of the man's home in nearby Pico Rivera. The 24-year-old, who was not identified, was detained for a mental health evaluation.
