SHERMAN OAKS (CNS) - One person was taken to a hospital from the Sherman Oaks Galleria Monday and five others were evaluated at the scene after complaining of watery eyes and other minor symptoms following an unknown odor in a building, authorities said.

The problem was reported about 9:15 a.m. in the 15300 block of West Ventura Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"Firefighters responded to complaints of an odor in a building and multiple patients with minor symptoms," Nicholas Prange of the LAFD said in a statement. "A total of six patients had minor medical complaints, such as watery eyes, scratchy throat, etc.

"LAFD Hazardous Materials specialists are testing the atmosphere inside with air monitoring equipment," Prange said. "Initial readings are not showing any significant hazard, but the irritant has yet to be positively identified."
