CARSON (CNS) - Firefighters today were working to completely extinguish a stubborn fire at a pallet yard and a distribution facility in Carson.
The greater-alarm fire was reported at 2:25 p.m. Thursday in the 16000 block of South Avalon Boulevard near Hemingway Park, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The smoky fire began in a wooden pallet yard and quickly spread to a large commercial building at a distribution facility that included cartons of hand sanitizer containing alcohol, the fire department reported.
Three firefighters were injured in the fight, with two treated at the scene and the third taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to the fire department. No other injuries were reported.
According to KCAL 9, an employee at the facility said a barrel of hand sanitizer may have exploded and ignited the fire. The official cause of the fire was under investigation, the fire department reported.
The fire was brought under control late Thursday night, but fire crews remained on scene overnight and into Friday dousing hot spots. Some active flames could be seen after daybreak.
Some electrical service was interrupted in the area, but most of the power had been restored by Friday morning, the fire department reported.
