Search Underway For Man Who Shot and Killed Bounty Hunter in Moreno Valley

A man who worked as a bail bondsman was shot and killed at a hotel in Moreno Valley Tuesday night as he attempted to apprehend a suspect who is being described by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department as "armed and dangerous."

James Black, 42, of Lake Elsinore, died while attempting to apprehend the suspect identified as Chad James Green, 41 (pictured above) at the Hotel Xola in the 24000 Block of Sunnymead Blvd, in Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived to find Black suffering from a gunshot wound and they began to render medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. Black was shot in the shoulder just above his ballistic vest and died on the way to the hospital.

Deputies say Green remains at large and should be "considered armed and dangerous." People are warned not to approach the suspect if they see him and to call 911 as there is an active warrant for his arrest.

According to information obtained by KFI's Steve Gregory, Green has a lengthy criminal record in Riverside and San Bernardino counties that goes back to 1987. A friend of Black, Dan Escamilla, said Green was on parole following his conviction for bank robbery and was released under Prop 47.

Officials with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department says anyone with information or video related to the shooting can contact Central Homicide Investigator Manjarrez at (760) 393-3530 or (951) 955-2777.
