Man Fatally Shot in South L.A. Area

Close-Up Of Illuminated Cars On Street At Night

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man shot to death Thursday in South Los Angeles was released today.

Traveon Winkler, 30, of Los Angeles was shot about 11:20 a.m. at 75th and Flower streets and was pronounced dead at the scene, Los Angeles police said.

Family members said Winkler -- a father of two who had another child on the way -- was standing outside his car when he was shot. LAPD officers had to stop at least one distraught family member from running to the slain man's body.

Two men in their 20s are suspects in the killing.

One of them was believed to be barricaded in a home near the shooting scene and a SWAT team was deployed to try and take him into custody, but he turned not to be inside, the LAPD said.
