Oregon man dislikes noisy babies, brings out AK-47

Franklin L. Tomes, 59, is not a big fan of his noisy baby neighbors. The Newport, Oregon man argued with the father of the babies outside of his apartment complex Tuesday night, complaining about the noise coming from a birthday party.

The harmless bickering turned violent when Tomes grabbed his AK-47 assault rifle and aimed it at his two neighbors. When the two men understandably ran from Tomes, he fired, hitting one man in both legs and the other in the shoulder.

“Thank God two of his friends were there who were able to grab him and stop the bleeding,” the mother of one of the wounded told KPTV. “He probably would have bled to death."

The cowardly Tomes fled to his own apartment to hide from police after nearby neighbors called for emergency help.

SWAT officers eventually convinced Tomes to surrender around 2:20 a.m. after a short negotiation over the phone. Both of the wounded men were taken to a local hospital where they are currently in stable condition.

Tomes faces charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.
