Long Beach city officials have closed the beaches in Alamitos Bay thanks to a 7,500-gallon sewage spill on Monday.

The sewage was discharged into the water from the east side of Alamitos Bay at Basin 1. City Health Officer Anissa Davis called for the closure until laboratory results show that the water is safe for swimming.

Specialists from the Long Beach Health Department are taking samples from the potentially impacted areas. Until they give the all clear, all Alamitos Bay and Colorado Lagoon swimming areas will remain closed.

You can find out the status of Long Beach recreational beach water quality by calling the Water Hotline at (562) 570-4199.
