Experts Say Recent Rain Will Cause Mosquito Population To Skyrocket

The recent rain we received here in Southern California was much needed but has the potential to create a bigger threat as we move through summer and into fall.

Experts say the rain increased the availability of stagnant water, which is where mosquitos breed, so we're likely to see a significant increase in the mosquito population. The stagnant water on the surface, in the thousands of miles of underground storm drains and in unmaintained swimming pools are the biggest concerns and could pose a public health risk in terms of increases in case of West Nile Virus and encephalitis.
