Addressing High Rise Buildings' Lack of Sprinklers

After the Barrington Plaza apartment fire, members of the Los Angeles City Council are working with the Los Angeles Fire Department to address the issue of grandfathered buildings without proper sprinkler systems.

As City councilman Mike Bonin told ABC 7 News, “This is about public safety on a number of levels...it’s about protecting tenants. It’s also about protecting our first responders. A high rise fire is an incredibly risky and dangerous endeavor.”

Since the fire, authorities have launched an investigation into high-rise buildings in Los Angeles to discover all buildings that lack sprinkler systems. It is their hope that new regulations will be implemented in order to better protect the city and everyone that resides in it.
