Horse Gives Birth During Wildfire Evacuation, Rescuers Name Him 'Spark'

Thousands of animals had to be evacuated from the areas affected by the Woolsey fire this week, including horses, donkeys, pigs, chickens, and others. The fire destroyed homes and structures in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Malibu, Calabasas, and Oak Park.

But one foal, and a pair of alpacas, are safe and sound after a few helpful humans saw their way out of the deadly fire. But throughout all of the evacuation madness, a horse at White Cloud Ranch in Malibu also gave birth.

The mare, as well as three other horses, were safely transported away from the burn area in a three-horse trailer. A rescuer even sat in the back of the truck during the ride to help with the birth of the newborn foal.

Once they were all evacuated safely and confirmed by vets to be healthy, the rescuers decided to name the new foal "Spark".
