The illustrious California Department of Motor Vehicles has opted to put a halt to a trial operation featuring those futuristic, self-driving taxis.
This suspension affects the permit held by Cruise, a prominent company that has been actively operating autonomous cabs on the bustling streets of San Francisco for quite a significant period, going all the way back to last year.
According to the DMV, these snazzy autonomous taxis are causing quite a ruckus and, dare I say, "an unreasonable risk to public safety" and will require Cruise to meet certain safety requirements before the permit is reinstated.
Cruise's self-driving taxis have found themselves embroiled in a series of unfortunate events, which encompass collisions with a city bus, encounters with a fire engine, impeding an ambulance carrying a patient, and even a daring escape following a police officer's traffic stop.
