Dwayne Johnson has now addressed the public's concerns regarding the fundraising efforts he and Oprah Winfrey initiated for Maui.
This campaign emerged in response to the devastating wildfires that struck Lahaina, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 98 lives back in August. Although both Johnson and Winfrey personally committed $5 million each, their decision to seek additional contributions from the public faced backlash and criticism.
During Sunday, Johnson took to social media to respond to the prevailing discontent, stating, “When we first launched the fund, there was some backlash. I get it and I completely understand, and I could’ve been better. And next time I will be better. I understand money ain’t coming out of the sky and it’s not growing on trees.”
Johnson further shared that he had previously experienced similar frustration, remarking, “...the last thing you want to hear when you are living paycheck to paycheck is someone asking you for money, especially when the person asking you for money, already has a lot of money.”
